Assignment 1
Reflection:
This assignment was a really fun challenge for me where I learned a lot about myself, even in this short time. I learned that with solfege, I have a much easier time figuring out solfege when I use the hand symbols along with singing the pitches. I learned that I have a hard time figuring out the pitch when “do” isn’t the ‘centred’ note. This song repeated ‘sol’ a lot and it was fun to try and focus the other pitches around ‘sol’. I liked how this song repeated itself and had similar interval jumps. I loved singing this! I had so much fun figuring this out and even though I messed up and had some struggles remembering the specific pitches.
Assignment 2
Assignment 3
This week I had a lot of fun trying to actively listen to the chords in the music I was playing/hearing. These three photos show examples of the songs that I was listening to and then deconstructing. I would pause the song, stop on the last note I heard and sing the arpeggio. This was challenging in certain ways, especially with the Sonata by Paul Creston because saxophone music is very dissonant and unconventional —many different and more unique chords are used. This was a fun challenge because it was not simply I and V chords that I was trying to sing!
